Texas Early Grano 502 is a popular, high-yielding short-day onion known for its mild, sweet flavor—often called an "eat it like an apple" variety. Released in 1944, this, or its improved PRR (Pink Root Resistant) strain, is ideal for southern gardens (zones 7-9), producing large, globe-shaped, yellowish-white bulbs in roughly 100-110 days.
