Tall Garden Phlox
Tall Garden Phlox
Garden phlox (Phlox paniculata) is a tall, upright perennial native to North America that produces large, fragrant clusters of colorful summer flowers.
Growing Conditions
Light: Thrives in full sun to partial shade (at least 4 hours of direct sun).
Soil: Prefers rich, moist, and well-draining soil with a neutral pH.
Size: Grows 2 to 4 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide.
Hardiness: Hardy in USDA Zones 3 through 8.
Care and Maintenance
Watering: Provide regular water during dry spells (about 1 inch of water per week). Water at the base of the plant rather than over the leaves to prevent disease.
Mulching: Apply a 2-inch layer of mulch in the spring to keep roots cool and retain moisture.
Pruning: Remove faded flower heads (deadheading) to encourage extended blooming. Cut stems down to the ground in late winter or early spring.
Spacing: Space plants 2 to 3 feet apart to ensure good air circulation.
