Spearmint

Spearmint (Mentha spicata) is a hardy, aromatic perennial herb in the Lamiaceae family, known for its bright green, lance-shaped, serrated leaves and upright, square stems. It grows 1–3 feet tall, spreads aggressively via underground rhizomes, and produces small, terminal spikes of lavender, white, or pink flowers in summer. 
Key Characteristics & Description
Foliage: Opposite pairs of wrinkled, 2-7 cm long, lance-ovate leaves with sharp, serrated edges and a distinct minty aroma. Leaves are typically bright green and almost hairless (glabrous).
Stems: Erect, square (a hallmark of the mint family), and branched, often reddish or green, reaching up to 3 feet in height.
Flowers: Small, tubular flowers arranged in dense, slender terminal spikes (3-12 cm long) that appear in late summer.
Growth Habit: Spreading and vigorous, creating a dense, ground-hugging or upright mat.
Habitat: Thrives in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. 
Usage and Care
Culinary: Widely used for its mild, sweet flavor in teas, drinks, salads, sauces (e.g., lamb), and desserts.
Care: Very easy to grow, but often becomes invasive in gardens. It is best grown in containers or with root barriers.
Maintenance: Prefers regular watering and can be cut back after flowering to encourage new growth
