'Slobolt' is a premier heirloom, loose-leaf lettuce (introduced 1946) renowned for extreme heat tolerance and resisting bitterness, making it ideal for summer harvests. It produces large, 12-14 inch, compact clusters of ruffled, light green leaves. Ready in 45-55 days, it is perfect for cut-and-come-again harvesting.
Key Characteristics and Description
Leaf Type: Light green, frilled, and crinkled leaves with a mild, sweet, non-bitter flavor.
Growth Habit: Large, compact, and upright, forming loose, thick clusters rather than a tight head.
Heat Tolerance: Exceptionally slow to bolt (go to seed) and remains sweet even in warm weather.
Size: Plants typically grow 12-14 inches tall and wide.
Best Use: Ideal for summer, fall, or winter greenhouse, offering high yield potential.
Harvesting: Best for "cut-and-come-again" where individual leaves are harvested, allowing the plant to continue growing.
