Romaine Lettuce

Romaine lettuce (Lactuca sativa var. longifolia), or Cos, is a, upright, annual cool-season leafy vegetable. It features long, narrow, crisp, and sturdy leaves that are deep green on the outside and creamy-yellow inside. The plant typically reaches 12–24 inches tall with a dense, loaf-shaped, crisp-textured head.

Color: Deep green outer leaves to light green, yellowish, or creamy-white inner leaves (hearts).
Size: Generally grows 12–18 inches tall and 6–8 inches wide.
Uses: Popular for Caesar salads, wraps, and sandwiches.
Growing Conditions:
Climate: Thrives in cool weather, with many varieties being bolt-resistant.
Light: Prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade, especially in hot climates.
Soil: Requires fertile, well-drained soil with a pH of 6.0–7.0.
