Matt's Wild Cherry is an indeterminate, early-maturing (55-60 days) heirloom variety known for producing huge yields of small (5/8" to 3/4"), deep red, and exceptionally sweet tomatoes. Originating from Hidalgo, Mexico, the vigorous, tall, and rangy plants offer high disease resistance to blight and produce clusters of tender fruit until frost.
Key Characteristics & Growing Tips:
Flavor & Texture: Very sweet, tangy, and soft, making them ideal for fresh eating, salads, and salsa.
Plant Habit: Indeterminate (requires trellising or staking), with delicate, thin-skinned fruit that should be picked frequently to avoid cracking.
Growth: Vigorous and hardy, growing 48 to 60 inches tall.
Cultivation: Thrives in full sun, requires consistent moisture, and is well-suited for both, cool and hot, humid climates.
Origin: Sourced from wild tomatoes in Eastern Mexico by Teresa Arellanos de Mena and given to Matt Leibman.
These tomatoes are highly productive, sometimes outlasting other varieties in the garden, and are excellent for gardeners looking for a "snacking" tomato with high disease tolerance.
