Edamame (Glycine max) is a bushy, upright, annual legume growing 2 to 3 feet tall, prized for harvesting immature, tender green soybeans in pods. Featuring trifoliate, dark green leaves and small, white-to-purple flowers, these heat-tolerant plants produce hairy, 2-to-3-inch pods containing 2-4 sweet, nutritious, and nutty beans. 
Key Characteristics and Description
Plant Structure: Bushy, erect, and branched, typically reaching 
 inches in height. They generally do not require staking.
Leaves & Flowers: Features dark green leaves and, in mid-summer, produces small, inconspicuous, white, pink, or purple flowers.
Pods: The pods are bright green, fuzzy (pubescent), and grow in clusters, containing 2 to 4 plump, pale green beans.
Growth Habit: A warm-season, nitrogen-fixing annual.
Harvest Stage: Harvested when the pods are full, bright green, and tender, about 10-12 weeks after planting. If left to turn brown and dry, they become mature, harder soybeans.
Flavor Profile: Sweet, nutty, and buttery. 
Growing Conditions
Sunlight: Full sun (6-8 hours daily).
Soil: Nutrient-rich, well-drained soil with a pH of 6.0-7.0.
Spacing: 12-18 inches apart, with rows 15-30 inches apart.
Temperature: Thrives in temperatures in the mid- 70's
Edamame, often translated as "beans on branches" is popular in Asian cuisine, offering a high-protein, fiber-rich, and healthy snack.
