Coleus - Wizard Collection

Coleus 'Wizard Velvet Red' (Solenostemon scutellarioides) is a compact, mounded annual (12–14 inches tall) prized for its deep, velvety burgundy-red foliage with, at times, delicate pale margins. Ideal for shade to partial sun, it is heat-tolerant, self-branching, and low-maintenance, making it perfect for containers, borders, and, with its deer resistance, as a houseplant. 

Key Characteristics and Care
Foliage: The heart-shaped, serrated leaves are primarily a rich, dark red or burgundy, often with lighter magenta veining and a thin, creamy, or pale margin.
Growth Habit: It has a compact, upright, and mounded habit, usually reaching 12–14 inches in height and 10–12 inches in width.
Light: Thrives in shade to partial sun; best color is often achieved with morning sun and afternoon shade.
Soil & Water: Requires well-drained, moist soil with a pH of 5.6-7.5.
Maintenance: No pinching is required, as the plants are naturally bushy.
Versatility: Excellent for landscapes, mass plantings, hanging baskets, and as an indoor potted plant.
Hardiness: Typically grown as an annual, but acts as a tender perennial in USDA Zones 4–10.
