Bloom Times are listed next to each variant.  See below for information regarding bloom times and choose the variant that best suits your needs.  We attempt to make your mum available just prior to the buds opening so that you can enjoy the blooms as long as possible!

Mums are a low maintenance and easy to grow plant for fall. They are loaded with flowers and come in a wide selection of colors, flower types and bloom times.  Mums bloom in response to the shorter days and longer nights of fall. Normal rainfall is often sufficient for mums. During dry spells, water as needed keep from wilting.

Mums are categorized by their bloom times—early, mid, and late season—which are determined by their sensitivity to daylight. To extend your fall color, mix and match these varieties so that as one finishes blooming, the next is just beginning.

Early Season Mums: (Approximate Bloom 9/10)

These varieties hit their peak color earliest in the fall.
Bloom Time: Late August through mid-September.
Characteristics: They are usually the first to arrive at garden centers. Because they bloom earlier in warmer temperatures, their flowers tend to fade and finish more quickly than later varieties.
Garden Tip: To ensure maximum longevity, purchase them when the buds are just beginning to crack open rather than when they are in full bloom.

Mid-Season Mums (Approximate Bloom 9/19 - 9/27)

These bridge the gap and provide peak color right in the middle of autumn.
Bloom Time: Mid-September through late September.
Characteristics: These are considered the "classic" fall mums. They offer the longest-lasting curb appeal for your autumn porches and landscaping.
Garden Tip: Avoid planting mums in areas with heavy nighttime lighting (like porch or street lights), as artificial light can delay bud formation and disrupt their natural bloom cycle.

Late Season Mums (Approximate Bloom 10/5 - 10/12)

These keep your autumn displays going right up until the first frost.
Bloom Time: Late September through late October (and sometimes into November).
Characteristics: At the garden center, these might look a bit plain compared to the early bloomers because they are largely just green buds. However, buying them at the bud stage allows you to enjoy the entire bloom cycle in your own garden.
Garden Tip: Because they bloom later, these are ideal for late-fall displays and can survive cooler autumn temperatures remarkably well.
